  • Purgatory Ski Area, featuring "The hottest skiing in the West," is known for its sunshine, dry powder and abundant snowfall. (90 miles)

  • The San Juan National Forest and Weminuche Wilderness Area offer many beautiful hiking trails.

  • Guided hunting and fishing trips, photo excursions, and park trips are also available.

  • The neighboring town of Pagosa Springs offers hot mineral baths and quaint shops. Try the famous Healing Water at the Hot Springs.

  • Durango is an authentic old cowboy town now filled with arts, Native American crafts and excellent dining. (60 miles)

  • The famous early Indian dwellings are located at Chimney Rock Indian Ruins just 20 miles to the west. To the south are large Apache, Navajo and Ute Indian reservations open to the public.

  • Catch the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for a memorable mountainside steam train ride through spectacular scenery. (60 miles)

  • Treasure Falls features a picturesque 100-foot-high mountain waterfall, just a short walk from its parking area.

  • The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad is the finest remaining example of the original Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge line which was built in the 1880s to serve miners and loggers. Runs from mid-May until mid-October.
